Elland Road evacuated as threat made to Leeds United on social media – Phil Hay
Leeds United have been advised to close their facilities at Elland Road until further notice on the advice of the police, according to Phil Hay.
It is believed that the club have been forced to close their facilities due to a security threat made against Leeds on social media. The club’s ticket office, Foundation offices and the club shop have been closed to the public through the police’s advice.
In a tweet posted by the club [24 March], they have apologised for any inconvenience caused and will update the public as to when normal services resume.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay tweeted on 24 March:
“Leeds United forced to close and evacuate Elland Road after security threat made against the club. West Yorkshire Police investigating and making checks at the ground.”
Worrying
This news will certainly be worrying to the public and those involved with Leeds United.
The fact that the Met police is involved means there could be something serious going on behind the scenes, and hopefully, everything will be sorted out very soon with the club facing some crucial fixtures at Elland Road in the coming weeks.

However, the safety of the public is paramount and that’s why the club’s facilities have been ordered and forced to close for the time being.
Football means so much to the public but it means nothing when public safety is in jeopardy, and that is certainly the case here with the police currently investigating the apparent threat on social media.
It is incredibly fortunate that this threat has occurred now rather than on the day of their next Premier League home encounter against Crystal Palace on 4 April. Let’s hope things are settled and investigated appropriately and soon.
In other Leeds United news, a Whites player has explained that he’s set to transfer clubs and the move appears subject to an official announcement.
