Jaka Bijol: Leeds United defender going nowhere as Daniel Farke sees a future captain
Jaka Bijol likely won’t be leaving Leeds United anytime soon, especially in the upcoming transfer window.
According to The i Paper on 23 April, Daniel Farke sees a future Whites captain in the Slovenia international.
Bijol may think about leaving Elland Road in the summer after having to compete with the likes of James Justin, Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk for minutes under the German manager.
The 27-year-old has started in 17 Premier League games for the West Yorkshire outfit since signing from Udinese for £15million last summer.
Farke seems to have immense faith in Bijol at the Peacocks and it looks like he’ll be going nowhere ahead of the 2026-27 campaign despite links away from LS11.

Daniel Farke has found formula to convince Jaka Bijol
In the first few months of the season, Bijol was struggling for minutes, with Rodon and Struijk the preferred defensive duo.
The Whites didn’t have much success with their previous system, which led Farke to switch to a 5-2-2-1 formation.
| Premier League Statistics | Jaka Bijol |
| Appearances | 21 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 1 |
| Clean sheets | 4 |
| Tackles per game | 1.1 |
| Clearances per game | 5.8 |
| Total duels won per game | 4.3 (56%) |
Since then, the West Yorkshire outfit and the Slovenia international have found much more joy and it looks like the German manager has almost guaranteed their English top-flight status.
It would make sense for Farke to continue with the system that has brought him success in the 2026-27 campaign and the 27-year-old centre-back will surely have a pivotal role to play if he stays.
Leeds United to have major summer transfer priority
While Bjol seems to have settled well at Leeds, Sebastiaan Bornauw may be looking for a way out in the summer after failing to get a lot of opportunities under Farke.
Signing a new backup centre-back should be at the top of the Whites’ agenda at the end of the season, with another full-back also clearly needed.

James Justin has been covering across the backline, but with Sam Byram’s contract running down, it would make sense to have a new left-back in the squad.
Paraag Marathe and 49ers Enterprises can’t rest on their laurels and should already be planning a significant investment in LS11 to improve the squad’s quality.
