£5million news emerges at Leeds United as sponsor trouble continues – Finance Expert
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Dan Plumley has insisted that Leeds United could be among many clubs who will try to differentiate their tactics after the gambling sponsor ban was passed.
The finance expert admitted that sleeve sponsors could be one of those ways to strengthen the net position of a club, with betting companies allowed on those.
It is said that deals for sleeve sponsorship could start at £5million, and rise the higher up in the Premier League table the club goes, which is motivation for Leeds to fight relegation even more.

“That goes back to diversifying sponsorship opportunities,” he exclusively told MOT Leeds News.
“You tend to find the values are lower on sleeve deals, as the exposure is slightly less so the deals can be adjusted accordingly. That can be anything in the region of £5million for a standard Premier League club, we have seen those estimates.
“So, if you put it together and you offset the major shirt sponsor and still get £5million out of that, your net position is stronger. It will be a tactic that a lot of the clubs will employ and a way to differentiate when that ban comes into play.”

With the 49ers Enterprises coming into the club as full owners in the summer, if things go smoothly, it will be interesting to see what happens.
More doors will be open in the American market and we could see sponsors follow, so this is certainly something to keep an eye on at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
