Pablo Hernandez will go down as a modern-day legend of Leeds United.

The former Spain international initially joined Leeds on loan back in 2016 from Al-Arabi before making his move permanent the following summer.

Whilst most Leeds fans will still be gutted after Gabriel Gudmundsson's late own-goal at Fulham, they will be delighted to hear the news regarding Hernandez.

The latest reports regarding one of their most respected icons of recent years landing his first managerial job will be heartwarming for members of the Elland Road faithful to read.

Pablo Hernandez named CD Castellon caretaker manager

Hernandez was a part of the 2020 Leeds squad that won promotion to the Premier League under Marcelo Bielsa.

Hernandez was United's best player for multiple seasons under Bielsa, and the Spanish playmaker could be set to land his first senior managerial job.

After a wonderful five years at Elland Road, Hernandez moved back to Spain to his hometown club of Castellon in 2021, in which he is also a shareholder.

Hernandez would eventually call time on a wonderful playing career in 2023 before eventually becoming the manager of their B team.

However, following Johan Plat's dismissal as manager, Castellon have confirmed Hernandez will be taking over as first team manager on an interim basis.

  • Plat was unpopular with Castellon supporters
  • The club are winless from their opening five games in La Liga 2
  • Castellon are currently sitting in 20th out of 22 teams in Spain's second tier

All Leeds fans will surely be keeping a close eye on Castellon's results for the upcoming season after Hernandez's appointment.

Pablo Hernandez in action for Leeds United

Pablo Hernandez managerial appointment could pave the way for an emotional Leeds return

It's early days and as of yet, the Spaniard is not even a full-time manager, but that will not stop United supporters dreaming of Hernandez returning to Leeds in a managerial capacity in the future.

Leeds supporters could want their former playmaker to impress and get the job permanently, although that is many, many years away.

If he does an impressive job at Castellon and moves on to bigger things, he could eventually eye the hotseat at Elland Road, which could look very different by that time.

If Hernandez is half as good a manager as he was a player, then Castellon will be in safe hands while he is in charge.
