Live from Leyland: Two players 9/10 in big victory - Leeds U23 player ratings v Bolton
By Mark Smith at the Lancashire FA ground in Leyland
Leeds United Under-23s travelled to face Bolton on Monday, looking to make it 5 wins in-a-row.
They did just that, winning 5-1 to strengthen their grip on a top-three spot in the Professional Development League.
Carlos Corberan had a handful of first-team names to choose from in Lancashire, with Jack Clarke, Ezgjan Alioski, and Eddie Nketiah all starting.
It was Alioski that opened the scoring in the first half, tapping home after a deflected cross by Clarke.
Clarke himself got the second to put Leeds in total control. Nketiah then slotted home from the spot and the game was basically over at half time.
Bolton got a consolation goal but further strikes from Nketiah and Robbie Gotts sealed the points
Here are our MOT player ratings…
Kamil Miazek – 6
A quiet evening for the Pole, who didn’t really have much to do. Miazek was solid enough in his distribution.
Bryce Hosannah – 6
Such an attacking full back that you could see slotting into the first team. Hosannah got forward at every opportunity but was beaten on a handful of occasions at the back.
Oliver Casey – 8
Another solid performance from Casey, who could find himself unfortunate not to have been given a chance against Hull and Cardiff. He kept the Bolton attack quiet and was the stand out Leeds defender.
Pascal Struijk – 6
Playing in an unfamiliar left back role after Saturday’s disappointing cameo against Cardiff. The Dutch youngster got forward but you could tell he didn’t have the skill set to regularly play out wide.
Charlie Cresswell – 7
Come back into the U23s after being in the under-18s for weeks, was strong and assertive alongside Casey.
Alfie McCalmont – 8
Continues to impress in midfield, playing like a more experienced professional with each performance. Disrupted Bolton’s midfield so we’ll and was at the heart of Leeds possession.
Jack Jenkins – 7
Great energy in front of McCalmont. Often won the ball back and disrupted Bolton in the heart of the field perfectly.
Mateusz Bogusz – 6
Quiet by his recent standards, but Bogusz made a number of good breaks and was always available for the ball in pockets of space.
Jack Clarke – 9
Superb from Clarke who tormented the entire Bolton defence nearly every time he touched the ball. On that form, it would be a shame to see him recalled in January.
Ezgjan Alioski – 9
It’s hard to keep Alioski from being the centre of attention in anything he does. The Macedonian was involved in almost everything and got the goal he deserved.
Eddie Nketiah – 8
Was a thorn in the side of the home sides defence all half. Got his goal and was unlucky not to get more than two.
Robbie Gotts – 7
Got his goal and looked good on the break from midfield in the second half.
Jordan Stevens – 6
Struggled to get involved after coming on. He did use his pace to great effect on a couple of occasions.
Nohan Kenneh 7
Solid from Kenneh. The under 18s ace came on in midfield and made sure of the three points with an assured performance.
