Victor Orta admires Swansea manager Russell Martin amid transfer links to Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt
Leeds United director of football Victor Orta is reportedly an admirer of Swansea and their manager Russell Martin.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Swans are one of four Championship sides to show an interest in Joe Gelhardt who could leave on loan.
Orta likes the Welsh team’s style of play as the Whites have fielded enquiries from Blackburn, Wigan Athletic and Hull City as well.
Playing time a priority
No matter where Gelhardt goes, it’s important for Leeds that they ensure he’s getting regular game time this season.
The 20-year-old will surely need to play week in and week out if he is to develop and if not, there’s no point in sending him out on loan in the first place.
Swansea do play an attractive brand of football, but they’ve got Joel Piroe leading the line for them this season.
In most games, they’ve fielded just one striker and Gelhardt’s arrival could either see him playing in the hole or him being benched for the Dutchman.
It’s important that the club’s loan manager Andrew Taylor, who has been in talks with Martin, ensures that he’s going to be a regular starter.
If these conditions are met, we think that the Liberty Stadium is a fine place for him to play his football until the end of the season and Jesse Marsch too should not have too much of an issue with it.
Martin is a quality manager who’s taken inspiration from Pe Guardiola and his side play in a similar style too [The Athletic], so it will be interesting to see how Gelhardt fares under him.
