'Trebled his value', 'Going to be best in world' – Some fans react as Leeds post footage of 20yo

Leeds United have posted a clip of Illan Meslier in action and added a very impressive stat – that the youngster has now kept nine clean sheets in just 16 league appearances.

Two of these have come in the Premier League this season, with wins against Sheffield United and Aston Villa.

Plenty of Leeds fans reacted to the tweet with one saying he must have trebled his value since signing for Leeds for a fee of a little over £5m in the summer.

£5m is certainly a bargain fee for a Premier League goalkeeper and, amazingly, Meslier is still only 20 years old.

Another said he must be “knocking on the door” for a senior call-up for his country – Meslier plays for the France Under-21s at the moment.

It’s not just the fans who Meslier has impressed.

Martin Keown has said that his save against Jack Grealish was a “defining moment” in the win against Aston Villa, with the score still at 0-0.

And MOT Leeds News columnist Paul Robinson has called him “outstanding”.

Meslier only won his place in the side after Kiko Casilla was banned for eight games for racist abuse.

And he would still likely be the number two at the club if Casilla had kept the gloves for the whole of last season.

Meslier is now the solid number one at the club and it would be a massive surprise if he’s dropped anytime soon. And his star is rising all the time.

Here are the best reactions from Leeds fans to the clip of Meslier keeping Ezri Konsa at display from last Friday night…
