'Superb', 'Buzzing', 'Brilliant news' – These Leeds fans thrilled by player update

Talented Leeds United youngster Charlie Allen signed his first professional contract with the club on Monday and he said that he was “delighted” on Twitter.

Allen signed for Leeds from Linfield in the summer as a 16-year-old for a sizeable fee of almost £300,000.

That shows how highly rated he is and he’s already started two Premier League 2 games and once in the EFL Trophy.

Allen tweeted his reaction shortly after the news of his first contract was posted by Leeds and fans were absolutely thrilled with the news.

Allen made the headlines at Linfield after being named in their 25-man Champions League squad to face Rosenborg. He made his debut for Linfield when he was still 15.

He arrived at Leeds with glowing praise from former Whites star and Linfield manager David Healy.

“Charlie is very good,” Healy said to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“You always try and be careful with young players that you don’t label them, you don’t say he’s similar to him, or he’s got this or that attribute.

“He’s a great kid who will hopefully thrive in the environment of Leeds United.”

Now that he’s signed his first pro contract, Allen will be targeting a regular place in the Leeds-Under-23s, but the competition is very strong there.

It’s a great time to be a young player at Leeds, though, with a real progression path and some high-quality players like Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood to feed off in the second-string side.

We’re predicting a big future for Allen at Leeds and that’s the view of plenty of other fans too.
