MOT View: What Klich told his girlfriend after Luton shocker proves he is true Leeds

Mateusz Klich has proved the doubters wrong at Leeds United.

The Bielsa mainstay was bombed out of the club on loan shortly after arriving from FC Twente by Thomas Christiansen.

He told Victor Orta back then that he’d be back but few Leeds United fans thought that would be the case.

However, since Marcelo Bielsa arrived he’s become undroppable and he’s now homing in on 100 consecutive league appearances.

Given the intensity of Marcelo Bielsa’s regime, that’s a breathtaking statistic.

He isn’t above criticism. His form since lockdown took a big dip and it led to fans slating him on Twitter, most notably for his ‘shocker’ against Luton.

He’s not above criticising himself, either, and while it’s rare for footballers to slate their own performances, Klich did just that after the 1-1 draw with the Championship strugglers.

As quoted by BBC journalist Adam Pope after a much-improved display and a goal in the win against Blackburn on Saturday, Klich said, “I told my girlfriend I could not have played any worse than I did against Luton!”

It’s a brilliant comment from the midfield mainstay that shows he’s aware of his own failings.

All we ask at Leeds is 100% and Klich certainly gives that. We love the fact that he knows when he’s a in a slump too and honest enough to admit it.

Klich also sent out a warning to Leeds fans, saying that he thought Brentford could win all of their remaining games this season.

They’ve won all four of their post-lockdown games to nil, with victories against West Brom and Fulham.

It means that West Brom are looking over their shoulders ahead of a game against Hull today – a loss would see Brentford just two points back.

That’s why Leeds can’t afford to be complacent.
