Leeds United could hit the jackpot by signing Zurich striker Willy Gnonto

Leeds United are still looking for an agreement with Zurich for 18-year-old striker Willy Gnonto and signing the striker would be superb business from the club.

Journalist Kaveh Solhekol reported (via the Sky Sports website on Wednesday 17 August) that Leeds are willing to pay up to £4.2milliion for the striker.

It appears that no agreement has been reached with Italian news outlet Tuttosport revealing (17 August) that Zurich and Leeds are still searching for an agreement as talks continue.

If Leeds can get a deal over the line for the striker then it would be astute business Victor Orta and the club hierarchy at Elland Road.

Gnonto would be a signing for the future and could act as a backup for Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford in the 2022/23 campaign.

Rodrigo’s early season form has been somewhat of a revelation at Elland Road after enduring a tough 2021/22 campaign for the Whites.

His goalscoring exploits could well have led Jesse Marsch to target a slightly cheaper alternative to act as a third striker.

It’s also important to remember that Leeds have the likes of Sonny Perkins and Sam Greenwood on their books, who could also feature as further striking options for the American to utilise.

Marsch going for a slightly cheaper option looks like a smart move.

A lot of money has been spent at Elland Road over the summer and the Yorkshire side shouldn’t overspend when they don’t need to.

Gnonto would give Marsch an array of youth options that could potentially challenge his senior striking pair.
