Leeds United: Beren Cross shares fan reaction to Patrick Bamford goal

Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross has shared the heightened Elland Road reaction to Patrick Bamford’s goal for Leeds United against Cagliari.

Bamford suffered a torrid 2021/22 season after suffering multiple injury setbacks and hasn’t scored a Premier League goal at Elland Road since the 12 May 2021, where he netted in a 2-2 draw with Brentford.

The Leeds man has finally ended his wait for an Elland Road goal with his 49th-minute strike against the Italian side and Cross revealed the Elland Road reaction to his composed finish.

He wrote on Twitter on Sunday evening (31 July): “Stadium lets out the kind of cheer it’s been waiting to give Bamford for an eternity.

“Waited so long for a goal from him here.

“Through-ball, one on one, slots it into the corner.”

Good signs

A fit Bamford could be huge for Leeds United in the upcoming Premier League season.

The England international has been so unlucky with injuries in recent years and could well have been playing at a higher level had he not been blighted by so many unfortunate knockbacks.

Bamford has always looked like a composed striker and if he can stay fit for the duration of the season, he will more than likely prove to prolific option for Jesse Marsch to utilise.

Furthermore, his front foot pressing and energy is a good fit for Marsch’s style of play and could well see him enjoy more success.

A fit and firing Bamford also saves Marsch a transfer headache in the coming weeks.

He can entrust the Leeds number nine to be his main man for the upcoming season and then try to recruit an up-and-coming striker to play second fiddle to Bamford for the time being.

Elland Road will be hoping for Bamford’s composed finishes to be a regular occurrence for the Whites in the coming weeks and months.
