Leeds attacker picks up injury problem as Whites stay top with 1-1 v West Brom

Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts was missing from the 1-1 draw against West Brom last night and it transpires that he’s got a slight hamstring issue.

That was the word from Athletic journalist Phil Hay after the 20-year-old was missing from the 18.

Roberts has had a torrid time with injuries since he arrived from West Brom and has only managed 10 league appearances this season.

He made a return in the 5-4 win against Birmingham, coming on for the last nine minutes of the game, but has now hit another speedbump.

There was no word after from Marcelo Bielsa about whether Roberts would miss any more game time, with an FA Cup tie against Arsenal up next on Monday.

Instead, all the talk was about Eddie Nketiah, who waved goodbye to the Leeds fans before Bielsa confirmed that he had been recalled from his loan following last night’s match.

That leaves Leeds looking for a new striker, with Roberts now the only senior player who can play back-up to Patrick Bamford.

Bielsa said he was sorry to see Nketiah go and that he had wanted the youngster to stay.

However, both Arsenal and Nketiah decided that he would be better off at a club where he was guaranteed more game time.

It’s ironic that the next club up for Leeds is Arsenal.

The Leeds fans are relishing a trip to north London to take on an Arsenal side who have looked very vulnerable this season.

However, they look like they’re getting a new manager bounce after beating Man United 2-0 in an impressive display at the Emirates on Wednesday night.

Leeds fans might be hoping for a strong team to be put out but the Championship is the priority this season and Bielsa could well look to change things up.
