Darren Ambrose: Leeds United more than capable of top 10 finish

Darren Ambrose believes Leeds United are more than capable of a top ten finish after their 3-0 victory over Chelsea at Elland Road.

Goals from Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison saw Jesse Marsch’s side blow the West London side away.

Ambrose believes the Whites have shown a number of people up after their start to the campaign.

Talking on talkSPORT’s Bootroom (21 August), Ambrose said: “They were absolutely brilliant.

“Tyler Adams and Rodrigo were all over the place.

“They wanted it more than Chelsea and they’re showing a few people up actually.

“Jesse Marsch gets stick because he’s American but it’s a very lazy stereotype.

“Today he showed that this season is going to be really positive for Leeds.

“They showed more than enough to not be in a relegation battle and be challenging for the top ten.”

What a day

There will be plenty of ups and downs for Leeds in the upcoming Premier League season, but that will certainly be a result that will live long in the memory.

Chelsea were completely dominated by an energetic and electric display from Marsch’s men in what was an epitome of what the American wants from his side.

What was the most pleasing aspect of the result were Marsch’s new signings really making an impact against one of the big six clubs.

Tyler Adams was absolutely everywhere, Aaronson’s first-half performance was electric and Marc Roca set the tempo of Leeds’ play well in the middle of the park.

There was always a worry that Leeds would struggle after the departures of Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha.

However, it is safe to say that the Yorkshire side are a far more well-rounded side than they when the 2021/22 Premier League season came to a close.

There’s plenty of reason to be positive at the moment.
