'Comedy act', 'Shock' - Many Leeds fans slam player despite win v QPR

Saturday’s game against Queens Park Rangers was meant to be the chance that Eddie Nketiah had been waiting for at Leeds United.

Instead, he picked up an injury in training on Friday. That meant that Patrick Bamford kept his spot in the side at Elland Road.

The Arsenal loanee had an abdominal injury [Yorkshire Evening Post], much to the disappointment of all Leeds fans.

Usual service began in West Yorkshire at the first whistle. The Whites were instantly on the front foot and started to create chances with ease.

After seeing many chances go begging, Bamford will have been desperate to break his duck. The forward hadn’t scored since August before the game, and that continued in the first half.

Bamford took the ball round opposition keeper Liam Kelly midway through the half, only to see a last-ditch tackle prevent him from scoring.

The former Middlesbrough man was bailed out by fellow forward Tyler Roberts, with the Welsh international scoring on his return to the starting 11.

Only luck prevented Bamford from finally scoring, as he hit the back of the net in the second half only for the offside flag to be raised. That long-awaited goal is certainly coming, and his all-round game just continues to improve each week.

Marcelo Bielsa will just be happy to see his side picking up three points again, with the full-time whistle going to secure a 2-0 victory and send the Whites back top of the Championship.

Many fans are losing patience with Bamford, though. While some can see past goals to his all-round game, others simply see a striker in the middle of a long drought.

He came in for a lot of stick on Twitter but we think it’s harsh to slam a player who is consistently running himself into the ground for the benefit of the team.
