Willy Gnonto considers new agent as Leeds United exit speculation continues at Elland Road – Phil Hay

Wilfried Gnonto could be set for a change of agent amid the growing speculation around his future at Leeds United, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

The online news outlet reported [21 December] that, while the Whites would like to tie the forward down to another contract at Elland Road, the player has made it clear in the past that he is keen to leave.

This comes after his reaction to Leeds not allowing Gnonto to leave the club in the summer despite interest from Premier League outfit Everton.

“There are suggestions around Gnonto that he is considering changing agent — and Leeds have always been minded to tie him to an improved deal were Gnonto willing to sign one,” Hay wrote.

A new set of eyes

A different agent may help the 20-year-old see sense in some of his decisions, most of all his reactions when not getting his own way.

Signing for Leeds in August 2020, Gnonto put pen to paper on a five-year deal, as per Sky Sports, which means that the player has no legs to stand on when it comes to throwing a tantrum at being kept at the club.

Of course, no club should willingly work with a player who so obviously does not want to be in the team. But it seems that Daniel Farke has slowly started to turn things around with the Italian.

Despite making only six league starts this campaign, Gnonto has made a further 10 appearances from the bench. He has scored once and assisted once, a far cry from the form we saw last season.

His goal-contribution stats may not have been spectacular in the Premier League, but his energy and determination were there to help the team battle relegation. Now, with a promotion dogfight, Gnonto is nowhere to be seen.

So maybe it would be a better idea to allow the player to leave. And with the potential for a new agent in the mix, it may be easier to find a solution for both parties.
