Victor Orta’s Leeds United record hailed by Marcelo Bielsa

Victor Orta’s record in the transfer market has received the backing of Marcelo Bielsa amid speculation of the director of football’s latest move.

With Red Bull Salzburg’s Brenden Aaronson reportedly the Spaniard’s top transfer target during this window (Leeds Live), and the management figure apparently spotted in Munich this week (Twitter), the Whites manager has expressed confidence in his ability.

The Argentinian boss said Thursday, as quoted by Leeds Live: “There’s evidence of the growth of Leeds United since Victor Orta’s been here.

“The teams are produced through their individualities and in that sense, he’s picked well.

“The majority of them are young and the players that have arrived here, they are usually worth more after they have been here.

“That means he picked players with [a] margin of growth for the potential to be better. He’s a person who knows the market very well with regards to young players in different countries.”

Eye for potential

United fans may be nervously watching the days tick by to the end of the transfer window, with the team ravaged by injuries this season, and results consequently affected.

Despite the victory over West Ham last weekend, the Whites sit in 15th in the Premier League and are still in danger of being dragged into a relegation fight.

Yet there have been no notable signings so far this month, and Beren Cross has reported the American midfielder Aaronson currently appears to be the sole target.

That could lead to doubts over the front office man, described as “controversial” by The Mail after his furious reaction to a fan in the stands in December.

But the backing of the manager will mean a lot as the ex-Argentina boss holds such an important place in the minds of supporters, and suggests a lack of other signings is because the right profile is not available.

It should not be overlooked that Orta’s time at the club has coincided with Bielsa’s, and the massive improvement that has seen Leeds return to the Premier League.

Although the team has struggled due to missing players this year, key contributors have been Illan Meslier, Raphinha, and hat-trick hero Jack Harrison, all of whom were brought in by Orta, so the club appears to be in good hands.

In other Leeds United news, the club have reportedly increased their bid to £20million for this target.
