‘Typical’, ‘Most LUFC thing ever’ – Many Leeds fans gutted by latest player update
Leeds United fans are ruing their luck after it was confirmed that new defender Diego Llorente has suffered a muscle injury while on international duty.
Spain confirmed on Sunday afternoon that Llorente, 27, will not travel to Kiev for the Nations League clash against Ukraine on Tuesday night and has been sent back to his club.
While it doesn’t specify what kind of injury Llorente has picked up, the image [below] on Spain’s website suggests that the centre-back has done something to his groin.
Leeds paid £18million to sign Llorente from Real Sociedad last month [The Athletic] to give Marcelo Bielsa three international centre-backs to choose from in his squad.
However, it seems that Liam Cooper and Robin Koch are set to hold down their spots in Bielsa’s starting line-up for at least the upcoming couple of weeks if Llorente has suffered a groin strain.
Even though Llorente is not a starter at Elland Road just yet, fans are annoyed by the confirmation from Spain that one of their new signings has been injured already.
Llorente impressed against Portugal earlier this week so supporters were excited to be able to see what he could do in the Premier League.
But the wait seems likely to go on now for Llorente, much to the fans’ disappointment.
Here is a selection of their tweets:
Llorente kept Cristiano Ronaldo quiet this week.
Wolves and Aston Villa are Leeds’ next two matches in the Premier League and neither of them have a player who’s near the calibre of the Portugal star.
After seeing how well he played against Portugal, you’d assume Llorente would breeze matches like this but unfortunately he might not get the chance for that to happen.
In other Leeds United news, there’s been an interesting update on Rodrigo De Paul.
