Some Leeds fans react as Sky tweet dramatic highlight: ‘Absolute farce’, ‘Still boils my blood’

Leeds United fans are still fuming with the events that unfolded as they drew 1-1 against Aston Villa at Elland Road last season.

Mateusz Klich put the Whites ahead in the second half even though Villa players had stopped playing as one of their team-mates was down injured.

Klich’s goal sparked a melee that led to Anwar El Ghazi getting sent off before Marcelo Bielsa instructed his side to allow Villa to score an equaliser.

It was a great bit of sportsmanship by Bielsa but it really shouldn’t have been necessary as Leeds’ goal was fair and should have stood.

If Aston Villa players played to the whistle – as many Leeds fans are still suggesting now – then Klich wouldn’t have found it so easy to score.

Why should the onus be on Leeds to stop play when the referee hasn’t?

SkyBet’s official Twitter account has now uploaded a tweet with a clip of that highlight last season, leading to a big discussion among Leeds fans.

Understandably, a lot of Leeds fans are still upset by the events that transpired on that day last April.

It ended the club’s hopes of automatic promotion and came about because Dean Smith’s team is one that’s players spending more time rolling around on the pitch than actually playing football.
