‘Seismic moment’ – Finally Leeds get brilliant news that boosts promotion hopes: MOT View

UEFA has postponed Euro 2020 until the summer of 2021.

That’s the news that came out of the UEFA conference call meeting that was held on Thursday.

It’s a “seismic moment in football” according to Sky reporter Bryan Swanson, but it was an absolutely necessary move.

They’ve done it so that European domestic leagues can finish this season’s fixtures, ideally by June 30, which will come as a huge relief to Leeds fans.

In uncertain times, and with speculation rife, it’s brilliant to finally get some good, solid news that means there’s a much greater chance of Leeds playing their final nine games.

Whatever anyone says about Leeds being handed promotion, the facts are that playing the final nine games is the most certain way to the top flight.

It’s still not certain, obviously. Leeds fans were still nervy when the fixtures were playing out and there are still 27 points to go for with a seven-point buffer back to third.

But, this news means that the EFL can re-schedule fixtures through the summer, with June/July one of the most likely times.

That would mean there isn’t much disruption to the 20/21 season, although there would still be logistics to sort out such as player contracts.

Irrespective, this is brilliant news for Leeds fans and as soon as the news was announced there were plenty on Twitter celebrating.

We say, let’s take any bit of good news we can at the moment. And this helps cut through speculation and moves Leeds closer to the promised land.
