
‘Sad to say’ – Phil Hay makes admission about Bielsa future at Leeds
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has admitted that Marcelo Bielsa is unlikely to spend more than another two years at Leeds United.
Bielsa, 65, has done a phenomenal job at Elland Road so far, leading the Yorkshire giants back to the Premier League as Championship champions.
It has been widely reported that Leeds will begin discussions about a new contract for the Argentine now that the season is over with the Sun claiming he’s set to sign a new £8million-a-year deal.
However, former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay believes it’s unlikely that Bielsa will stay on at Leeds for more than two more seasons.
Writing on his personal Twitter account, Hay said: “A couple more seasons of Bielsa might be all that we get (which is sad to say).”
Hay’s right. Bielsa is not going to be the Leeds manager forever – as much as we would love him to be – but for now, let’s focus on the present and the not-too-distant future.
Bielsa has just won the Championship title with Leeds and taken the club back to the Premier League after 16 years.
We’re very sure that he’ll pen a new contract to stay at Elland Road for at least next season so he can test himself in the best league in the world for the first time ever.
Bielsa’s such a good manager that we can see the Whites staying well clear of relegation and maybe springing a couple of surprises in the process.
