‘Risks’ – Robin Koch explains why he shunned big Bundesliga sides to sign for Leeds
Robin Koch has explained that he shunned a move to a big Bundesliga side in favour of Leeds United because of Bielsa.
In an interview with the Times, it was said, “The 24-year-old defender knew that it was the right move for him — he wanted to play for Marcelo Bielsa.”
Koch also opened up on what he loves about playing for Leeds.
“We do things differently here but I like the risks we take,” Koch said.
Talking about Bielsa, Koch said, “He is someone who gives the team clear instructions before the match.
“That’s why he doesn’t necessarily have to change many things during the match. We all know exactly what we have to do.”
Koch the rock
Koch said that he wants to play against the best and he got that in his first game for Leeds – a baptism of fire against Liverpool.
Leeds were unlucky not to get anything out of the game, losing 4-3 to a late penalty, but it was a good team performance.
The jury was out on Koch after the game after he conceded a penalty in the opening minutes but since then he’s been an absolute rock – until another stuttering display against Leicester on Monday.
He got his highest rating from WhoScored – a solid 7.34 – in the 1-0 win against Sheffield United and helped secure another clean sheet in the 3-0 win against Aston Villa last weekend.
With Liam Cooper’s injury, Koch has been waiting to forger a partnership with Liam Cooper and fans will hope they can build that going forward.
Jamie Vardy was always going to provide a stern test of his credentials.
