Report: Leeds senior players sent home to isolate after medical advice, Thorp Arch closes

Leeds United have sent their senior players home to isolate after closing down Thorp Arch on medical advice, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reports that no members of the Leeds squad or staff have tested positive for coronavirus nor shown any symptoms but have been sent away to limit the potential spread of the disease at their training ground.

It is understood that Leeds planned to continue training throughout the currently-suspended Championship season but have had to change their approach for at least the next week.

The Athletic adds that players have been sent home with exercise and other gym equipment to keep themselves fit during the period of isolation.

It remains to be seen what kind of effect this has on the Leeds United squad because Bielsa requires his players to be in tip-top condition to perform at his high standards and, as such, it was no surprise when it was reported at the weekend that the boss wanted his squad to train through the coronavirus-enforced suspension.

Once football does reconvene – whenever that may be – there will hopefully be a period beforehand that allows players to get back to peak fitness first.

If not, Leeds could struggle to play the way they did before their momentum was halted at the weekend.

In other Leeds United news, no secret meeting was held between the Whites, West Brom and the rest of the top-six on Monday.
