Reliable journalist explains why Bielsa has not held pre-Leeds v Birmingham press conference

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has not held a regular pre-match press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Birmingham on Sunday.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth explains that Bielsa has not spoken to the press about that game due to him answering questions about the clash at St Andrew’s on Boxing Day after the Whites drew 1-1 with Preston at Elland Road.

Bielsa had not done any analysis on Birmingham at that point but with the game now less than 24 hours away, there is no doubt that the Argentine will be feeling suitably prepared – based on the information he showed on Derby amid January’s spygate scandal.

Leeds only have a three-day gap between fixtures and Bielsa has clearly seen that he would only be wasting preparation time by talking to the press more than he has to.

Who can blame him?

Bielsa is someone who we know does extensive research on opposition teams before matches and he has probably not had a lot of sleep these last couple of nights due to this.

Bielsa is a credit to Leeds and hopefully he can find a way to get a win against Birmingham this weekend.

If the Whites fail to do that then there’s going to be a lot of pressure to pick up maximum points on New Years Day when the side travels back to the West Midlands to play league leaders West Brom.
