Radrizzani suggests plan to finish 19/20 season with Leeds in battle worth £200m+

Andrea Radrizzani has revealed that promotion to the Premier League would be worth over £200million for Leeds United and he wants to see the currently suspended season reach a conclusion.

Leeds’ promotion bid has been left in a state of limbo due to the coronavirus pandemic bringing English football to a halt earlier this month.

Leagues below the National League North and South have already been made null and void with there being fears that will also happen higher up the football pyramid.

However there are other plans for teams to play out their remaining matches of the season and Radrizzani believes that Leeds should be allowed to play their last nine fixtures over a short period behind closed doors.

“We are fighting for the promotion worth more than 200 million and it is also a very important thing for the club because we have been missing from the Premier League for 16 years,” he told Italian newspaper Tuttosport, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“For the last two years, we’ve done a superb job. We deserve success on the pitch: I hope that there will be a chance soon to finish the season.

“With a month and a half of time you can finish, even less. There are nine games you could play in June or even behind closed doors on Sunday and Wednesday, as often happens.

“The priority is to guarantee and protect the sporting outcome in respect of the fans and the investments made.”

Radrizzani’s idea appears to be something that has cropped up a lot lately with plans surfacing about playing matches with no fans in a short period of time in either June or July.

It is bound to depend on the state of play outside of football before a plan like this can go ahead and wanting the season done before the end of July might be a tad optimistic.

We all want football back as soon as possible and there’s no doubt that Radrizzani, who has £200million riding on promotion, is in the same boat.
