Phil Hay relays FA update that sees Leeds rank fourth in league as millions are spent
Leeds United forked out £4.03million on agent fees between February 2019 and January 2020, the latest FA figures show.
The Athletic journalist relayed the FA’s update on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday, adding that Leeds ranked fourth-highest in the Championship for the money spent on agent fees.
Stoke, Swansea and Fulham all rank above the Yorkshire giants.
It is no surprise to see Leeds rank so high because Marcelo Bielsa is a top, top manager and his agent would have no doubt demanded a lot of money when he was hired in 2018.
As for the players, there are the likes of Jean-Kevin Augustin and Helder Costa who would have no doubt costed the Whites a bit in terms of agent fees, even though they were signed on loan.
What is interesting is that Stoke and Swansea are above Leeds.
Swansea are a decent side that could still secure a play-off spot but the fact remains that they are ninth in the Championship.
As for Stoke. That’s just awful.
Stoke have pumped a lot of money into trying to get themselves back out of the Championship but results on the pitch have been woeful – to say the least.
They’re top of the rankings when it comes to money spent on agents but rank 18th in the Championship table – just two points clear of the relegation.
That is the sort of spending that is going to lead to pay caps being enforced upon Championship clubs but also shows how clubs live beyond their means once they are relegated from the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, Pablo Hernandez could take this Leeds rookie under his wing.
