Phil Hay: Patrick Bamford contract announcement imminent

Leeds United should not be too far away from announcing a new contract for star striker Patrick Bamford, according to Phil Hay.

Talks have been ongoing for quite some time now, and the talisman is set to be rewarded for his form last season.

Hay insisted that there has never been the idea that it was complicated, with all parties happy with their current situation.

Writing for a Q&A on the Athletic, Hay shared the latest updates on new contracts for the first-team squad.

“They have been talking for a while and it’s never sounded like it was wildely complicated,” he wrote.

“I’m pretty sure they’ll get there and an announcement on that shouldn’t be too far away. But whereas it became clear last night that Meslier was about to sign new terms, I’m yet to get the nod about Bamford.

“Suffice to say, he’s still massively part of the plans – and set up to be Bielsa’s number nine again this season.”

Get it done.

Bamford will be going all out to prove to everyone that last season wasn’t a fluke, and will be targeting double figures again.

It appears as though we were the only ones who weren’t surprised by his goalscoring antics in the Premier League season.

The striker is brilliant at creating space and chances for himself, and has had torrid luck with injuries and run of the ball during his time with us in the Championship.

Marcelo Bielsa has put serious trust in Bamford, and that has brought the best out of him in this match made in heaven.

Get this contract done immediately.
