Phil Hay: Leeds United could jet to California as World Cup break could see serious Premier League changes

There is talk of Leeds United jetting out to California during the World Cup break which is set to begin next month, according to Phil Hay.

Jesse Marsch remained tight-lipped on plans for the Whites but did admit that the break would start with some time off for his squad ahead of the Christmas restart.

Hay did suggest that serious changes could take place during that break in the Premier League though, with clubs potentially considering changing their managers.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Phil Hay Show, the journalist shared what could happen at Elland Road compared to the Premier League.

“Marsch was saying last week after we asked him what Leeds will do during the break, and he said they would get a fortnight off to begin with,” he said.

“Then, they will be back in and there has been talk about them going to the States, going to California to train over there and kill a bit of time as everyone waits to get going again on Boxing Day.

“As I say, I suspect when we get to early November and there is this wide open space in front of everybody, the clubs that are having doubts will start to think very seriously about what they’re going to do.”

Safe.

Marsch should be one of those who is relatively untouchable at this stage though.

The American has a great relationship with the likes of Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta, with the 49ers no doubt also on board with the manager.

When you look around the Premier League though, the merry-go-round has already begun with Bruno Lages being sacked at Wolves and doubts surrounding Leicester and Nottingham Forest.

Leeds and Marsch could make the trip to California and return to find new managers in charge, and those who were in the dugouts before the break finding themselves stuck at home.

The Premier League is unforgiving at the best of times, but clubs get handed a one-month break to make transitions and start training new methods, some may just take that.

Marsch is here to stay with a real long-term plan in mind that includes him and the 49ers, something that many clubs don’t appear to have right now.

Interesting times ahead.
