Phil Hay: Junior Firpo very close to comeback, will miss Leeds United v Aston Villa

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo will miss the Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Wednesday evening (07 February).

Phil Hay has relayed the news, with the Spaniard “very close” to a comeback after going off injured against West Ham last month.

Firpo could feature against Everton on Saturday afternoon, as Marcelo Bielsa starts to welcome back some faces from injury.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Monday morning, Hay shared the latest on the Spaniard at Thorp Arch.

“Firpo misses Villa but is very close to a comeback and could feature at the weekend,” he wrote.

What is the answer?

Stuart Dallas filled in at left-back against Newcastle, but the Whites desperately missed his influence in midfield.

With Adam Forshaw returning, he could anchor the midfield, allowing Robin Koch to drop in alongside Diego Llorente in defence.

That opens the door for Pascal Struijk to move to the left-hand side, covering the absence of Firpo perfectly.

Thankfully, it shouldn’t be for more than one game, although it will be a tough clash against Steven Gerrard’s side.

We need our players back, as there hasn’t been a single weekend this season where we have had a full-strength team.

It may not look good when viewing the Premier League table, but when you look at our injury tables throughout the season, it is brilliant.

Bielsa and his squad are working wonders at times (minus that Newcastle game) and hopefully, we can pick up another vital three points on Wednesday, no matter who is or isn’t available.
