Phil Hay says how Leeds might plan to expand Elland Road capacity to 50,000
Leeds United fans regularly pack Elland Road and promotion to the Premier League is bound to see the 37,890-seater stadium filled more regularly.
According to transfermarkt, Leeds’ average attendance in the Championship this season has been 35,321, with the stadium being 93.2 per cent full on average.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has discussed on Twitter about whether or not Leeds would move home one day to accommodate their massive fanbase after reading what is on offer at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Hay wouldn’t be a fan of a new, modern stadium and one fan responded with a plan that would see the capacity of Elland Road lifted to 50,000.
Chris Delaney’s idea would be to mainly redevelop the West Stand, adding another 10,000 seats.
And when reading that plan, ex-Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay said that something similar to that would be what the Whites would want to do.
Elland Road is Leeds’ home and while most Tottenham fans are happy with their new stadium, it just wouldn’t be right for the Whites to play anywhere but where they are now.
We’re all for the stadium being expanded or redeveloped, but knocking down Elland Road would be heartbreaking, especially to make way for a soulless venue that looks similar to hundreds of others in the world.
