‘Not true’ – BBC 5 Live journalist posts update after Times takeover claim about Radrizzani

Prominent Spanish and BBC 5 Live journalist Guillem Balague has refuted claims made in the Times about Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani looking to buy Valencia.

That report said that cash-stricken Valencia are under pressure to sell and that Radrizzani and the Aser group are among those interested in a takeover.

However, Balague has poured cold water on these claims saying, “Not true. #LUFC‘s owner has not tried or even thought of buying Valencia (even though he’s looking into other clubs).

“Peter Lim insists he doesn’t want to sell #VCF (despite proposals that are being put together from locals to buy it, mostly too modest)”

Balague posted his update on his personal Twitter account on Wednesday morning.

Balague did say that Radrizzani is looking into buying other clubs and it’s clear that he sees his future in football as bigger than just Leeds.

That’s no bad thing if Radrizzani makes the right deals, something he certainly did with Leeds after buying them for £50m.

Promotion to the Premier League has seen his initial investment grow to around £300m, according to Price of Football journalist Kieran Maguire.

We’ll be glad if the reports around Valencia and Radrizzani prove to be untrue.

They’re a club in crisis after failing to qualify for Europe with one of the most expensive squads in La Liga.

Leeds were the beneficiaries this summer as Valencia had to offload a number of players, including Spain international Rodrigo.

According to Marca, the club is stricken with debt and it would be a brave man who would take them on and try to restore them to their former glory given the current gloomy COVID-19 outlook.
