MOT View: Major blow to Leeds & WBA promotion bid with fears over EFL plan being unworkable

Leeds United and West Brom could see their promotion bid come to a heartbreaking end based on a new report that has been released by the Telegraph.

Leeds fans have been relishing the prospect of ending their 16-year absence from the Premier League this season with Marcelo Bielsa’s side top of the Championship table and being seven points clear of third with nine matches to play.

However the coronavirus pandemic left Leeds’ promotion bid hanging in the balance amid fears that the season could be declared null and void.

Although the EFL have planned to resume the season behind closed doors, the Telegraph’s latest findings suggest that could be unworkable.

Part of the plan was to have all players and staff members tested for coronavirus before each match was held but it is understood that he EFL would have to pay for a total of 66,000 tests to complete the season.

It has raised fairs that the 2019/20 season will have to be abandoned, especially with the likelihood of it being a PR disaster if football is given the go-ahead to resume at this stage.

We haven’t really been worried about the season being declared null and void until now. We just thought it was something that those who are biased against Leeds would bring up just to rile up the Elland Road faithful.

But the Telegraph’s report is a stark reminder that it is very possible that Leeds will have their points-tally reset to zero and throw into doubt the future of Marcelo Bielsa.

In other Leeds United news, David Seaman has shared what he’s heard about Bielsa.
