Mateusz Klich details what Leeds have told him about return date and plan to complete fixtures
Leeds United star Mateusz Klich has revealed that the club’s told him they plan to resume training on May 16.
Last month, the Championship season ground to a halt due to the coronavirus pandemic while clubs were also forced into disbanding group training sessions.
Leeds’ season was left with them sat top of the Championship table, seven points clear of third and having nine matches left to play.
Klich has told Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy what he has heard about returning to training as well as the EFL’s plan to finish the season.
“We received such information from the club,” said Klich when asked about the date in May when training may resume.
“The plan for the moment assumes that we will resume training on this day, prepare for the next three weeks, and then finish the season for 57 days.
“These are optimistic assumptions, we will see if it will work. From what I saw on television news, in England is now the peak of the incident, the situation does not look [good].”
Klich is right because while it is all well and good to plan when clubs can return to training and matches can be played again, no one can safely say what will happen a month down the line.
Hundreds of people are still dying every day and as long as that continues, it is unlikely that the governing bodies of football will allow fixtures to take place, even if it is behind closed doors.
Safety is paramount at the moment. We all want football back but we want it back when it is safe.
