Many Leeds fans react as Phil Hay relays EFL update: ‘Sigh’, ‘Just hoping Bielsa stays on’

Leeds United fans have been offering a mixed reaction to the latest update by the EFL after the governing body released a new statement on Saturday.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay summarised the statement in a short tweet on his personal Twitter account, saying that the EFL still intend to complete the 2019/20 season but “it can only happen once testing measures are in place for players etc.”.

Former Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay is a magnet for Leeds supporters on social media and, as expected, there were plenty of fans replying to the latest news from their favourite reporter.

While some are still happy to see that the EFL is trying to complete the currently-suspended season so that Leeds can continue their bid to win promotion, others are worried by the complexities of testing players and some aren’t happy with the EFL’s update at all.

The whole nation needs to have widespread testing in place so will the government be able to let the Premier League, EFL and National League have access to testing kits so desperately needed by the NHS, care homes and other health facilities?

We all love football. It’s why we watch it, write about it, read about it and live and breathe the game. But we’re all very well aware that beating coronavirus is more important than Leeds’ promotion bid – even the most hardened of supporter should agree with that.

It is good to see that some fans are wary of that in their response to the EFL’s update in what has overall been a very mixed response to the news.
