Many Leeds fans fume as Phil Hay relays BBC report: ‘Turning into absolute farce’, ‘Shameful’

Leeds United fans are furious with relegation-threatened Premier League clubs for their stance on the latest stance to complete the season.

According to BBC Sport, there is a growing number of top-flight clubs who would be willing to finish the season behind closed doors in neutral stadiums.

However it is understood that those near the bottom of the Premier League standings are worried that playing away from their home would be an unfair advantage in their battle against relegation. As a result, BBC journalist Simon Stone claims that these clubs want the threat of relegation removed if they’re forced to play at neutral stadiums.

If that happens then it could seriously hurt a club like Leeds, who were knocking on the door of the Premier League before the coronavirus pandemic brought football to a halt.

The Athletic journalist Phil Hay has relayed the BBC’s report and his reaction to the story is that things are getting “weirder” and “more desperate” by the day.

Hay’s reaction is similar to that of most Leeds fans, who are not at all happy with the stance of those teams in trouble in the top-flight.

One of the main points that everyone is making is that if playing at neutral stadiums hurts the integrity of the game, then how is scrapping relegation any different?

They’re scared of relegation, so scared that they’re willing to clutch onto whatever straws they can to ensure they avoid the drop into the Championship.

Leeds fans have called some of the clubs down in the relegation dogfight “shameful” – and we must agree.
