‘Madness’ – Some Leeds fans gobsmacked by Graham Smyth Twitter update on Bielsa favourite
Mateusz Klich has been an absolute engine for Leeds United.
He’s now made 82 consecutive league starts, including two play-off semi-finals, which is a phenomenal feat in this day and age.
It means he hasn’t been injured and hasn’t been dropped because of form and it’s a run that takes him past Gordon Strachan (who boasts 81 consecutive starts).
It’s not just that stat that’s impressive, though.
In his press conference last week Marcelo Bielsa said that Klich runs the most out of all of his Leeds players.
This week, Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth asked him in his pre-match press conference (live in the LUFC app, Tuesday, 12.30pm) how far Klich runs in an average game.
The answer was pretty amazing. Bielsa said that he runs almost 12km per game, with 1km of that being high-intensity sprints.
Add all of that together and it means that Klich has run 984km for Leeds in consecutive Leeds games – talk about running your heart out.
Smyth posted the amazing stat on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday and plenty of Leeds fans piled on to react to it.
Most of them were blown away by the stat, with one saying he is a “machine”, another saying that was “elite-level endurance” and another just adding an emoji of his mind being blown…
They’re not wrong. This is his heatmap in the Championship for Leeds and he’s absolutely everywhere.

However, some Leeds fans are never happy and one actually pointed to the stat as being the “problem” with Leeds.
He said, “And right there is our problem. Too much running around with no end product. MB is obsessed with the amount a player runs. Make the ball do the work. A player can’t run faster than the ball when it’s passed.”
The problem with this analysis is that Klich doesn’t run 12km a game with the ball – this is his total running stats.
