Luke Ayling sends message to Leeds fans after being nominated for PFA award
Another day has seen yet another Leeds United representative in the running for an award.
This time it’s Luke Ayling, with the defender being nominated for the PFA Fan’s Player of the Year for last season in the Championship.
Alongside Ayling are Eberechi Eze, Matheus Pereira, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma in being nominated.
The Whites defender has been superb ever since Marcelo Bielsa arrived at Elland Road, and has delivered a message to the fans after the nomination.
“Let’s see if you’ve gone complacent now we are promoted,” he joked on his personal Twitter account.
Whenever there is a vote, the Leeds fans come into play and usually blow any competition straight out of the water.
Take Ben White winning the Goal of the Month award in July for example, taking 81% of the votes despite having strong competition.
Blackburn’s Adam Armstrong scored from the halfway line against Cardiff that month, so for White to take that many votes proves how much influence Leeds fans have.
Ayling was definitely one of the standouts at Elland Road last season and is the only defender nominated in this list.
The 28-year-old could challenge some of those attackers though, finding the back of the net on numerous occasions and winning the Goal of the Season award.
The defender was Leeds’ best performer according to WhoScored, earning an average match rating of 7.26 – just above Pablo Hernandez and Kalvin Phillips.
Ayling has done his part asking for the fans to take action, now it’s down to the Elland Road faithful to do their part.
