Leeds United will be impacted massively due to broadcaster rebates
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...
Leeds United and the other non big six Premier League clubs will take a heavier financial hit.
That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who claims that the Whites would be impacted massively.
Over the last few months, 14 of the 21 matches that were set to be televised were called up due to Covid.

BT Sport lost six games due to the cancellations while Amazon lost three during the festive period.
Last season, the Premier League had to pay back £330million to Amazon, BT and Sky for cancellations.
Discussing the impact Leeds will face, the Sheffield Hallam University expert said,
“We don’t know about the exact figures yet.
“However, it will always hurt clubs outside the big six because compared to revenue their TV cash seems to be quite high.
“For those kinds of clubs, it’s not unusual for TV money to make up 60-70 per cent of the revenue.
“A lot of clubs these days borrow against the broadcasting payments and broadcasters want a rebate, you might have to deal with that as well.”

Broadcasters will seek additional rebates for games called off at short notice.
They will be rescheduled for midweek slots which will not be as lucrative for the advertisers, impacting the revenue streams.
In other Leeds United news, the club have made contact to sign a Golden Boot winner and a £10m offer is on the cards
