Leeds United star Raphinha ‘clear option’ to replace Ousmane Dembele at Barcelona

Barcelona have made Leeds United winger Raphinha their “clear option” to replace Ousmane Dembele at the Nou Camp next season, according to Marca.

The 25-year-old is attracting the eye of the Catalan giants at Elland Road and Xavi Hernandez, Barcelona manager, seems keen to make the Brazilian a part of his squad next season.

He would likely be Dembele’s replacement as he and Xavi have had their differences although recent performances suggest the Frenchman, who Barca signed for £120million from Borussia Dortmund in 2017, may yet be offered a new deal.

Whether he accepts that deal is as yet unknown but Xavi also has to weigh up the loan deal for Adama Traore who has a buyout clause should he wish to keep the Spaniard beyond this season.

They also have Francisco Trincao to consider who is currently out on loan at Wolves and he may be another winger hanging around the Nou Camp next season if he isn’t purchased by the Molineux club.

Deco

This deal may well be easier for Barcelona to complete given that Raphinha’s agent is former Blaugrana player Deco.

The Portuguese footballing icon will always have his client’s best interests at heart but any relationships on the Spanish coast may well see him persuade his man to La Liga.

If he does leave, it seems like Leeds will get a hefty sum for the 25-year-old with threats of relegation quickly being put to bed thanks to the stunning upturn in form under new manager Jesse Marsch.

The American hasn’t had much time to evaluate the entire squad but given the almighty attraction of Barcelona, it wouldn’t be a surprise if his hands are tied when it comes to the Brazilian’s future.

While it would be a real shame to lose such a talented player, it might also be the catalyst for overall improvement within the squad and a more balanced team to challenge in the Premier League under Marsch’s guidance.
