Leeds United pleased with summer signing Wilfried Gnonto

Leeds United are “pleased” with their summer signing Wilfried Gnonto who has settled well at Elland Road, as per Tim Thorton.

The Sky Sports journalist has suggested to Give Me Sport that Jesse Marsch needs to be more patient over his development.

Thorton adds that although he has settled in nicely, and the club are pleased with his development, with him it could be a case of “sink or swim” regarding how he does in the Premier League.

“By all accounts, he’s settled in well and Leeds are quite pleased with him,” said Thorton to Give Me Sport.

“But I think they can also be patient with him unless they get injuries in key positions. Then it might be a case of sink or swim and we’ll see how he does in the Premier League.”

Talent

The summer transfer window was massive for the Whites where they spent big on several players, with Jesse Marsch sculpting the squad to his own taste.

The Whites were hesitant about whether to sign a striker, but they felt it was necessary.

There was a temptation to go after an established and experienced striker, someone like Che Adams, but the club didn’t want to stand in the way of Joe Gelhardt’s development.

In the end, they signed Gnonto for around £3.8 million from Swiss side Zurich during the late hours of the transfer deadline day.

The 18-year-old forward penned a five-year contract at the club. He was not the first-choice target for the Whites, but the signing was made after the club failed to land other alternative targets.

Gnonto has shown that he has got loads of talent, and has won six caps for Italy as well. Patrick Bamford remains the first-choice option for Marsch, but Gnonto could be a handy option going forward.

In other Leeds United news, an Elland Road-linked midfielder is now certain to leave his club in the coming weeks as a host of Premier League clubs are vying for his services.
