Leeds United monitoring fitness of Archie Gray amid Daniel Farke concerns

Leeds United are closely monitoring the fitness of 17-year-old Archie Gray, who has played in all 13 of their Championship fixtures so far this season, according to Beren Cross.

The journalist shared via Leeds Live [27 October] that the midfielder’s physical data is showing no increased injury risk as he shows no signs of slowing down ahead of Saturday’s clash with Huddersfield.

This news comes following comments from Daniel Farke, where he showed his frustration at Gray going on international duty due to the toll it could take on his fitness [The Athletic, 19 October].

His development is paramount

Despite the key role he has played in Farke’s team so far this season, ensuring that the club are doing what’s best for the development of their 17-year-old wonder is of paramount importance for Leeds and for Gray’s long-term career at Elland Road.

Ensuring he isn’t burnt out from playing too many minutes in too little time will prevent an increased risk of suffering a potentially derailing injury, so some rotation may be necessary from time to time to keep him fresh.

While current data does seem to indicate his fitness has not taken a knock, despite playing seven 90-minute games in the last 21 days, there is no doubt he has looked tired in his last couple of games and may be due a rest when Leeds face Huddersfield Town.

Farke has placed a particular focus on Gray’s fitness and growth as a player during his time at the club and will be doing everything he can to ensure the midfielder is given the best plan possible to help maximise his talent and his potential.
