Leeds United: Jack Harrison contract talks expected soon after Leicester City interest continued late into deadline day – Phil Hay

Contract talks with Leeds United winger Jack Harrison are “expected soon” after Leicester City’s interest in a transfer went into the very last hour of deadline day, according to Phil Hay.

The 26-year-old winger was the subject of a £20million bid from the Foxes earlier in the winter window [David Ornstein, 28 January] amid speculation that Leeds had to release the attacker to fund further incomings.

However, Jesse Marsch has kept his man, and the club will now look to enter negotiations for a contract extension, with just 18 months remaining on his current one at Elland Road.

The Athletic’s journalist Hay admitted that talks between the Whites and Leicester carried on right until the 11pm cutoff on Tuesday evening (31 January).

He wrote (Wednesday 1 February): “While Raphinha and Phillips were used to fund last summer, Leeds avoided losing Jack Harrison yesterday despite concerted interest from Leicester City running right to the last hour of the deadline.

“More contract talks with Harrison are expected soon.”

Brilliant news

The news that Harrison is expected to extend his stay at Elland Road is a brilliant piece of news that fans will love hearing.

The January transfer window was quite spectacular from a supporter’s point of view, with all of the first team’s glaring weaknesses addressed.

From the little exposure Austrian international Max Wober has had, he looks to be a leader on the pitch, a defensive rock, while Georginio Rutter provides Marsch with some brilliant flexibility with which to operate his front three.

Weston McKennie, meanwhile, could well be the best of the lot, considering his previous experience playing in the Champions League and past friendship with Tyler Adams on international duty.

If Marsch can get these new recruits gelling nice and quickly, the club should be able to throw away any relegation doubts that remain within the club.

Victor Orta and Andrea Radrizzani have certainly done their part. Now it’s over to Marsch to deliver the goods on the pitch.

In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports journalist has shared whether Weston McKennie can make his debut against Nottingham Forest.
