Leeds United inserted relegation release clause in Jack Harrison new contract

Leeds United put a relegation clause into Jack Harrison’s contract when he signed a new deal last month, according to Mo Ibrahim.

Harrison penned a new four-year deal with the club after being on the verge of leaving for Leicester in January, when a £22m bid was accepted on deadline day.

But according to journalist Ibrahim, who works with Gianluca Di Marzio, the Elland Road club inserted a relegation clause into the deal which means his wages will drop if the team drop into the Championship.

Sensible

Obviously from Leeds United’s point of view that is a really sensible thing to do, because relegation is a really viable threat right now.

But more than that it shows the commitment levels of Harrison to sign the deal anyway, showing that he wants to be at Elland Road for the long-term and that means he is incentivised to keep the team in the Premier League.

With Robin Koch reportedly close to penning a new deal too the difference seems to be the willingness to have that clause in the deal, which means Koch could be looking for a way out sooner rather than later.

Leeds United

If we stay in the top flight then the squad is unlikely to change too much, although there will inevitably be some exits from the club.

Fans should be delighted to know that Harrison is that committed to the club that he is willing to take the chance on it for us, even if he does end up leaving the club in the summer should we be relegated.

In other Leeds news, another first-team player is close to extending his Elland Road deal.
