Leeds United in talks to postpone upcoming Premier League clash – report

Leeds United are in talks to postpone their upcoming Premier League clash against Southampton at Elland Road.

The Telegraph have reported that the Saints need to reshuffle their fixtures after their FA Cup clash with Shrewsbury was postponed.

Shrewsbury face being thrown out of the competition if they can’t find a way to complete the fixture – something Leeds may have to be sacrificed for.

Preliminary talks have been opened between the Whites and Southampton, as they look to rearrange the FA Cup clash before the fourth round.

Leeds crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday in the third round after embarrassingly losing 3-0 against League Two Crawley.

Shrewsbury have had a major COVID-19 outbreak, meaning they never got the chance to do that to the Saints over the weekend.

Benefits Leeds?

Many outsiders and pundits continue to question whether or not Leeds will be able to continue with their incredible intensity throughout the season.

Coming up to the halfway stage, the Whites are currently on 23 points and are over midway to the desired 40 points known for survival.

Should this game be cancelled, Marcelo Bielsa’s men would play Brighton on Saturday and then face a 10-day wait before travelling to Newcastle.

They would miss the midweek game against the Saints, and then miss that weekend of the fourth round of the FA Cup, and then face Newcastle on the Tuesday evening.

This could be a massive blessing in disguise.
