Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch tells BBC the thing he wasn’t supposed to say before now
Jesse Marsch doesn’t want to beat around the bush with what he wants for Leeds United and says he is here to “dream big” and “win trophies”.
The American first has to complete the job of avoiding relegation, but has big plans for the Whites in the future.
The club haven’t lifted any silverware for two decades, since they won the last top flight title before the Premier League came in and the subsequent Charity Shield, but that hasn’t stopped Marsch talking up the future.
He told BBC Radio Leeds in a clip posted to Twitter: “So what does success mean? I don’t do this without the end goal in mind.
“And I don’t mind saying, you want to win trophies, you want to win trophies.
“This was a big thing in Germany, you’re not supposed to say that because you’re only setting yourselves up for failure.
“But come on man, this job, this business, is about dreaming big.”
Big talk
Most would have thought the manager who followed Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road would have had an impossible job to come out from the Argentine’s shadow.
Adding to the club’s trophy cabinet would be a good way of going about it though.
The kind of wild win that has put top flight survival within touching distance might suggest this side has the potential to be a strong cup team.

But after just two years back at the top table, and coming off the back of a season that looked like ending in disaster as recently as a month ago, it feels like wishful thinking.
Of course in theory every club is aiming to win trophies, but it does invite ridicule from certain critics if you can’t back it up.
There is a big summer coming up at the club whatever happens in the final weeks of this season.
If the Whites stay up, there looks to be a strong academy generation ready to break through.
If there is a significant amount of money available in the transfer market as well, perhaps augmented by the sale of Raphinha, there is scope for the team to be transformed for next season.
In other Leeds United news, yet another Premier League club is sniffing around a vital first-team star.
