Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch admits he needs to be braver with young forwards

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has admitted that he needs to be braver with the young forwards in his squad by playing them more often.

The team have struggled to find a solid and firing centre-forward since Patrick Bamford’s injury at Newcastle in September 2021.

Rodrigo got off to a flyer scoring four goals in August but has since failed to find the back of the net with Marsch confessing he needs to be “riskier” with the selection of his young forwards.

“The young group of attacking players we have now is really exciting,” said Marsch as quoted by the Yorkshire Post.

“When they’re playing with the (under)21s and training with us they’re showing that quality every day. It’s continuing to make me think about the right time to start to let some of these guys go a little bit more and give them more opportunities with the first team.

“It’s a little bit of a shame results haven’t been better because maybe I could be a little bit riskier or braver with some of the younger players.

“I need to still consider that because I want this to be part of our process and I need to be brave regardless. I’m trying to evaluate every week what bites to give them.”

Exciting.

It looks like Marsch may finally be considering letting some of his young guns fly in the Premier League and this is a mouthwatering prospect.

Leeds really does have some of the best youth talents in the league, this has been on full display this season in the Under-21s Premier League 2 outings.

September signing Willy Gnonto is yet to debut and may be the most exciting out of the lot, he even made the Golden Boy final 20 nominations list on Friday.

Marsch must consider the likes of Gnonto and in-form Sonny Perkins as genuine talents to bring into the first-team setup to help frailing results.

Leeds United did attempt to sign a centre-forward in the window but failed to capitalise on any of their targets, they must use what they have youth level now.

And they really have nothing to lose by doing so, if you’re good enough to play it shouldn’t matter what age you are and the experience you have.
