Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani slams European Super League

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has mounted a passionate attack on the European Super League plans that could have catastrophic consequences.

Six Premier League sides, including Liverpool and Manchester United, have joined forces to found a 12-strong ‘midweek competition’ that will feature some of the richest clubs in European football. [BBC]

Radrizzani applauded Gary Neville’s comments regarding the situation on Sunday evening when he tweeted, “Well said Gary,” before he tore into the plans on Monday morning.

He wrote on his personal Twitter profile: “Absolutely against the sporting spirit, the dream of millions of fans to conquer the championships on the field, with planning, vision, work.

“It kills dreams of clubs, players and fans. The teams are fans and WE are the keepers of the club.”

Get ’em told Radz

Radrizzani has come out swinging against these self-serving elitist sides and we’re behind him all the way.

It is a ridiculous idea that opposes all that football should be and seeks to restrict competition and keep it amongst those with money and power.

How typical it has come as we claw our way back to the top.

Maybe it’s not that coincidental and the Premier League’s ‘Big Six’ can see the net closing in on their stranglehold of the division.

Radz has backed us and we will only get better with more investment while Farhad Moshiri has also outlined his ambitions to tackle the top teams at Everton.

Evidently the top dogs don’t like this challenge and are closing ranks.

Football needs strong figures to come out in opposition and we’re glad Radz has made his position clear and hopefully his condemnation will be shared by other powerful influences whose opinion holds weight.
