Local journalist names three Leeds players who ‘did not need disrupting’ by enforced break

It will be intriguing to see how Leeds United respond to the enforced break as they return to Championship action against Cardiff on Sunday.

The Whites were in unstoppable form before the break, winning their last five games easily, all while keeping clean-sheets.

That run saw them reclaim top spot in the Championship, jumping ahead of West Brom and more importantly seven points clear of Fulham in third.

The Yorkshire Post journalist Stuart Rayner has claimed that Leeds United trio Illan Meslier, Luke Ayling and Jack Harrison didn’t need disrupting by the break.

“Jack Harrison, Luke Ayling and Illan Meslier, in particular, were in rhythms that did not need disrupting but will still return as top players, just rusty ones facing opponents in the same predicament,” he wrote.

That same point applies for the entirety of the Leeds squad, although these three players have been singled out before the restart.

Meslier certainly didn’t need to be disrupted, and the first game back at Cardiff will feeling like another debut after only two Championship appearances.

The French youngster looked slightly uncomfortable against Hull but did his job. That could be an area to target for the Bluebirds, but we are confident that he will feel ready for the challenge.

As for Ayling and Harrison, they were in the form of their lives. The defender, in particular, was unstoppable – the 28-year-old scored three goals in his last five games and has helped keep clean sheets in each of those outings, impressive.

Every player will have a slight bit of rustiness to shake off, but Marcelo Bielsa will make sure that his side is a step above the rest for the restart.
