Joe Urquhart: Junior Firpo all set to start for Leeds v Norwich

Leeds United travel to Norwich City in the Premier League this afternoon looking for an important three points.

Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed numerous boosts to his side this week, with Raphinha and Junior Firpo likely to be available.

The Spaniard was named in the starting XI for the under-23s against Arsenal at Elland Road but was replaced after half an hour.

It looks as though that was the plan all along, and Firpo looks to have got through these vital minutes unscathed in the 4-2 defeat.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Urquhart has responded to that cameo appearance last night, sharing if the defender is likely to start at Norwich still.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Saturday, Urquhart appeared to insist that is certainly the case.

“Some important minutes for Junior Firpo last night,” he wrote. “All set up for a Leeds United return at Norwich.”

No doubt.

This would be a brilliant boost for the Whites.

Given our injury concerns elsewhere, welcoming back another one of our first-team stars to action could be critical this month and beyond.

It was smart of Bielsa to throw Firpo into the under-23s on Friday, testing him out for half an hour before bringing him back off.

Jamie Shackleton is a doubt, Luke Ayling is out so Stuart Dallas may need to move across to right-back if needed – leaving left-back open for Firpo.

Hopefully, Firpo is named on the teamsheet and he can start to really express himself fully and consistently.
