‘I had to delete Twitter’ – Leeds star details ‘Ruthless’ absue he’s received online
Leeds United winger Jack Harrison has revealed that since moving to England, he has been forced to delete his Twitter account due to “ruthless” abuse he’s received online.
Leeds signed Harrison, 23, on a season-long from Manchester City in the summer of 2018 and after impressing manager Marcelo Bielsa, the Whites opted to strike another temporary deal last summer.
In his debut season at Elland Road, Harrison really failed to impress a lot of Leeds fans and the decision to re-sign him was met with a lot of scepticism.
However the former New York City winger has since proven to be a key component in Bielsa’s first team with him starting all 37 of the Yorkshire club’s Championship fixtures this season.
Harrison is rightly a contender to win Leeds’ player of the season award but it hasn’t always been easy for the on-loan attacker.
“The most difficult was the reaction from some of the fans. Being in New York and everywhere I’d been, I’d always had positive feedback,” Harrison told ESPN FC, as quoted by LeedsLive.
“Even if I’d played badly it was always encouraging. I grew up in the US as well, so all my team-mates had been encouraging.
“That’s the US mentality and their way of coping with sports, but once I came here, I was on social media, some of the things you see it’s just ruthless.
“I had to delete Twitter. Too many people coming at me. That was something new for me I had to adjust to.
“Trying to build the mental strength to work a way through that. It was tough, but it only makes you stronger as a player.”
Harrison has certainly silenced his doubters this season.
Last term, he wasn’t the best player in Leeds’ squad but he did a job and Bielsa had a lot of faith in him to perform well.
Bielsa has continue to develop the winger and he’s now one of the top players in his position in the whole of the Championship.
We would love to see what he can do in the Premier League with the Whites.
In other Leeds United news, Andrea Radrizzani has posted an encouraging tweet.
