Graham Smyth shares what Red Bull should have done as new Leeds United away kit drops

Graham Smyth has said that Red Bull should have asked for their logo to not be on the front of the new Leeds United away kit.

The journalist took to X on 24 July and stated that it would have given the company a bit of “goodwill” after their investment in the club.

Smyth also went on to say that the shirt would have looked “magic” without the massive logo on the front and would be more of a nod to the original shirt.

“They had a chance here to say ‘stick us on the back beneath the collar, tiny blue logo’ and garner a bit of goodwill/PR,” Smyth wrote.

“Without the logo it would look magic. It’s just not the way of the world in football though, is it? They can so they do.”

Leeds United set for strong 2024/25 Championship campaign

There’s no doubt that the Red Bull group getting involved at Leeds was pretty timely especially with so many teams keeping an eye on PSR requirements.

The club was arguably facing the prospect of multiple big sales but, thanks in part to their investment, only Archie Gray departed before the June 30 PSR deadline.

Granted, the midfielder’s departure was one that rocked the fanbase but was something that felt unfortunately like a necessary evil.

Still, there have been some concerns among Leeds supporters – not least the fact their new home kit features some red from the Red Bull logo, a colour not too much liked in these parts.

Leeds’ new away kit is a stellar tribute to the 1974 kit and the ‘smiley badge’ puts the icing on the cake. It might have been a good move if the Red Bull logo was placed elsewhere on the shirt but, alas, it was not.

If the club can gain promotion back to the Premier League this season, though, some of these concerns may fall by the wayside.
